SIG - COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Purpose:

The Community Engagement Special Interest Group (CE-SIG) seeks to advance meaningful, ethical, and sustainable engagement between health professions education (HPE) institutions and the communities they serve and interact with. The group will act as a collaborative hub for educators, community partners, researchers, and students committed to strengthening community-centered learning, research, and partnerships across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

Objectives:

This group will foster a regional community of practice that connects ANZAHPE members engaged in or aspiring to develop community partnerships, community-engaged learning, service-learning, and co-design. It will:

  • Create dialogues, collaborations and actions around CE.
  • Promote innovation and scholarship in community-engaged HPE, including evaluation, reflective practice, and research into community participation, health equity, Indigenous engagement, and social accountability.
  • Provide leadership and stewardship for the future of community engagement in HPE by contributing to and advocating for best practice, exploring new models of community-academic partnership, and strengthening the role of community voices in education.
  • Create sustainable structures, partnerships, and activities that enhance ANZAHPE’s capacity to support community-engaged educators and attract diverse, cross-sector membership.
