How do I get the most out of SIGs (HTAGs)?

Presenters: Graeme Horton, Rebecca Roubin and Judy Kell

    Date: Thursday 20th November 2025
    Time: 1.00pm - 2.00pm (AEDT)

Special Interest Groups, SIGs, (previously known as HTAGs) are at the heart of ANZAHPE’s community. In this networking session, SIG Leads will give short introductions to their groups and the opportunities they offer. You’ll then join smaller breakout discussions to ask questions, explore how SIGs can support your professional interests, and share ideas for new SIGs that could benefit our members.

    ABOUT OUR PRESENTERS:

Associate Professor Graeme Horton is Head of General Practice and Primary Care at the University of Newcastle. He has a Masters of Environmental Studies and a PhD on the attitudes of Australian medical students to the incorporation of the topic of climate change in the curriculum. He is part of a team that has developed and delivered planetary health modules to all third-year students of the Joint Medical Program since 2021. Graeme is a practising GP and is a member of the Medical Council of NSW.

The Planetary Health Special Interest Group focuses on planetary health education, which includes climate change (one of several global environmental changes and planetary boundaries) and sustainable health care (reducing the footprint of health care; resource stewardship) education. Our aims include to share experiences and develop resources around inclusive planetary health education across disciplines.

Rebecca Roubin is a Lecturer in Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, at the University of Sydney. Rebecca's research studies focus on the molecular mechanisms of the tumour microenvironment (extracellular matrix) in disease states and in drug therapeutics and diagnostics.

The AI-Futures Hot Topic Action Group (AI-Futures HTAG) seeks to proactively engage health professional educators in critical discussions around artificial intelligence (AI) within Health Professional Education (HPE). The group will serve as a think tank, offering insights and guidance to the HPE community on learning, teaching and assessment, and ethical considerations of AI in education.

Judy Kell is an Education Focused lecturer and winner of the Faculty Award for Excellence in Educational Innovation. She has qualifications and over 30 years of experience in adult education (in both the tertiary sector and the corporate environment), staff/professional development (teaching and learning) and organisational capacity building. She is also an experienced qualified counsellor having worked at ACON (AIDS Council of NSW) and in private practice specialising in family and relationship therapy. Judy has also worked as a registered midwife in the NSW public hospital system so can bring this clinical experience to her work at UNSW. She manages UNSW Medicine's Clinical Mentoring Scheme and the Health 25 Strategy Mentoring Projects, has co-convened the Society and Health course and teaches in various courses in the Medicine program. She is a member of the Medicine Program Redesign Team and leads the Learning Coach Initiative. She is an active member of ANZAHPE and leads the Clinical Mentoring HTAG/SIG.
