Congratulations to Kelby Smith-Han on his Fellowship with ANZAHPE!

Kelby Smith-Han is a Senior Lecturer in Health Professions Education at the University of Western Australia. At UWA, he teaches in the Humanities in Health and Medicine major and across postgraduate certificate, diploma and master’s courses in health professions education. He also supervises research students from honours to PhD that include both health professional education and health humanities research.

Kelby’s scholarly interests span student learning and development, student experience, academic staff development and the health and wellbeing of health professional students and the learning environments that shape their experiences. His interest in health humanities reflects a commitment to examining the human experience of illness, care and professional practice and is particularly interested in what the health humanities can contribute to education and practice.

Kelby has been part of the ANZAHPE community since 2005 when he attended and presented at the “Mind the Gaps” conference in Auckland, New Zealand. He applied for Fellowship because he values the generous relationships he has developed through ANZAHPE and wants to continue building them. He also sees Fellowship as an opportunity to give back to the organisation and to the people whose support has shaped his career, particularly by encouraging and supporting other health professions educators. For Kelby, ANZAHPE’s welcoming and collegial culture is one of its greatest strengths.
