Congratulations to Anna Ryan on her ANZAHPE Fellowship Revalidation!
Professor Anna Ryan is Head of the Department of Medical Education (DME) at the Melbourne Medical School. A medical doctor, she holds several educational qualifications, including a PhD in Medical Education. Based in the DME since 2009, she has taught across all years of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme and contributed to the MD curriculum, post graduate programmes, and research portfolios. She supervises Master of Clinical Education and PhD candidates and maintains an active research programme in health professions education. Her overarching research examines the tension between using assessment to guide learning and the traditional role of assessment in certifying competence and ensuring patient safety. She led the Melbourne Medical School’s transition to pass–fail grading and programmatic assessment. Anna holds influential roles in health professions regulation and accreditation through her work with the Australian Medical Council and the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria. She is a member of the editorial advisory board of Medical Education and has been a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Association for Health Professional Educators since 2021.
"I’ve had the privilege of being supported by exceptional mentors, and I sought Fellowship as a way to pay that forward through formal mentorship within the organisation. My first five years of Fellowship have been rewarding - particularly the opportunity to meet with and learn from other health professionals across the ANZAHPE network. I look forward to continuing to contribute to the valuable work of ANZAHPE in the years to come."
