ANZAHPE is excited to announce The Faculty of Pain Medicine (ANZCA) as a bronze sponsor for the 2025 ANZAHPE Conference in Perth.

The Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM) is the specialist medical body responsible for training and educating pain medicine physicians in Australia and New Zealand. Established in 1998, FPM is a faculty of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA), one of the region’s largest specialist medical colleges.

FPM works to reduce the burden of pain on individuals and communities by setting standards in pain medicine education, training and professional development. Through our programs, we support clinicians to deliver safe, evidence-based, and person-centred care to people living with pain.

The faculty plays a national leadership role in pain education, engaging with government, health services, and professional bodies to build a shared understanding of contemporary pain management. A key initiative currently underway is the development of Australian Standards for Health Practitioner Pain Management Education, funded by the Australian Government. These standards aim to strengthen pain management education across the broader health workforce—not just for pain specialists, but for all clinicians involved in the care of people experiencing pain.

Co-designed with consumers, educators, clinicians, and peak bodies, the standards focus on promoting best practice in pain care, including interdisciplinary collaboration, communication, reflective practice, and evidence-based approaches. The project is now entering a national consultation phase.

We are pleased to be exhibiting at the 2025 ANZAHPE Conference and look forward to engaging with educators and curriculum leads across health professions. The conference provides a valuable platform to share updates on the education standards project and to explore future partnerships to support their implementation.

We believe better pain care starts with better education—and we welcome the opportunity to collaborate with the health professional education community in shaping the future of pain management training in Australia.

Our flagship solution, MyProgress, is trusted widely in Australia and internationally by many of the world’s top medical and healthcare education providers to deliver high-quality assessment and feedback, recognition of skills and competencies, ensuring that learners are fully prepared for professional practice.

MyProgress enables the seamless capture of assessments and feedback in diverse learning settings, from hospital wards to rural community placements, supporting medical, nursing, and allied health students with real-time feedback and competency tracking. MyProgress plays a pivotal role in enhancing clinical supervision, ensuring regulatory compliance, and standardising assessment practices across placements in both urban and rural healthcare settings.

MyProgress is a configurable system, so universities can design and deliver tailored assessment programmes that align with accreditation and curriculum requirements. Students build comprehensive portfolios that document their progression, showcase competencies, and receive personalised feedback. Advanced analytics and reporting tools provide educators and administrators with deep insights into learner engagement, progression, and performance outcomes.

We collaborate closely with our partners to co-design solutions that align with national pedagogical standards, regulatory frameworks, and the unique demands of clinical education across Australia.

Clinical Learning Australia (CLA) is an example of a recent national project we’ve worked on. MyProgress technology was to develop a national ePortfolio system to support the training of thousands of Postgraduate Year 1 and Year 2 (PGY1 and PGY2) prevocational doctors in every Australian state and territory, ensuring a consistent and well supported approach to medical training.

CLA provides an effective approach to documenting the achievements of prevocational doctors as they transition through critical early stages of their careers. The intuitive, user-friendly platform allows prevocational doctors to record their experiences against the National Framework for Prevocational Medical Training and to receive timely feedback from supervisors. Critically, the tool also features offline capabilities on mobile devices to ensure uninterrupted access, ideal for rural locations where internet access is unreliable.

We are deeply committed to continuous innovation, investing heavily in research and development to ensure our platforms stay at the forefront of learning technology. Our solutions integrate seamlessly with existing systems, delivering an outstanding user experience and measurable impact for both educators and learners.

We look forward to connecting with educators to explore the future of assessment and learning, and to strengthen our ongoing partnerships with Australia’s medical education community. For more information, visit: www.myknowledgemap.com

ANZAHPE is excited to announce that the University of Western Australia has come onboard as a Gold Sponsor for the 2025 ANZAHPE Conference in Perth.

Transforming Healthcare Through Education: The Health Professions Education Program at UWA

The University of Western Australia (UWA) has long been at the forefront of advancing health education, equipping professionals with the expertise to lead and innovate in clinical and academic settings. Through its Health Professions Education programs, UWA fosters a dynamic learning environment where healthcare professionals develop essential skills in teaching, leadership, research, and curriculum design—ultimately shaping the future of healthcare delivery.

A Comprehensive Approach to Health Education

Since its inception in 2007, UWA’s articulated Health Professions Education postgraduate courses—including a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, and Master’s programs by coursework or research—have been instrumental in preparing professionals to mentor, educate, and lead in diverse healthcare settings. These programs are grounded in educational theory, instructional design, and interprofessional collaboration, ensuring graduates are equipped to enhance both clinical education and patient care.

UWA’s commitment to accessibility has driven key innovations:

    • Since 2015, all courses are available 100% online for health professionals across Australia, with options for face-to-face learning on campus.

    • Since August 2024, international students can access the program entirely online.

    • Short certification courses (2–3 days) provide targeted training for local and global professionals.

With flexible study options, UWA’s multi-award-winning Health Professions Education program offers:

    • Full-time and part-time study, available face-to-face, blended, or fully online.

    • Research-focused pathways (Master by coursework and research, Master of Philosophy, Doctor of Philosophy) that drive innovation in health education.

Elevating Clinical Practice and Patient Care

A strong foundation in health professions education is critical in modern healthcare. UWA’s programs enable professionals to critically assess, implement, and innovate educational interventions, addressing key challenges such as workforce shortages and the evolving healthcare landscape. Graduates leave with enhanced problem-solving skills, research-driven approaches, and a commitment to lifelong learning, which directly improves patient care and healthcare systems.

As a 2019 Master’s graduate from midwifery expressed, “Everyone working in health will supervise students at some point. UWA’s HPE courses are incredibly valuable and should be essential for all healthcare professionals.”

Another recent Master’s graduate from medicine further emphasized the profound impact of the program, stating, "One of the key strengths of the Master of Health Professions Education course relates to the varied educational and occupational backgrounds of the staff and students undertaking the course. I have found it invaluable to learn from the experiences of others, their perceived mistakes, the settings in which they have occurred, and the overall outcomes achieved."

    A World-Class Faculty and Research-Driven Curriculum

UWA’s Health Professions Education discipline significantly contributes to health professionals’ expertise, equipping them with specialized skills in teaching, leadership, and evidence-based practice. Every unit is designed around scholarly literature on teaching and learning, ensuring content, assessment, and instructional methods are informed by research.

Students in the Master’s programs even contribute to scholarly literature, collaborating with faculty members who are research-active educators and recognized experts in the field. This interdisciplinary team enhances graduates’ educator identity, leadership skills, and ability to shape healthcare education globally.
